Homer, NE – Presented by Chesterman Co. Coca-Cola and Miller & Sons Golf Cars (E-Z-GO), 33 teams of Nebraska PGA Professionals their amateur playing partners competed in a Pro-Am event at Landmand Golf Club. It was the first Nebraska Section PGA event hosted at the new King-Collins Golf designed golf course in Homer, Nebraska.

This was the first time many of the players in the field experienced the jaw-dropping golf course. The course expands over the hilltop of the Northeast Nebraska farmland and it features the largest greens in the United States. In total, the 18 greens span over a total of 6.3 acres which includes the 35,000 square foot green on hole 17, which is the biggest in North America. Excitement was in the air, there was little to zero winds and the event teed off at 8:30am with perfect scoring conditions that lasted all day.

The first round under par in the clubhouse was Kyle Schellpeper, PGA of Wayne CC after he eagled No. 18 to fire a 72 (1-under) to set the bar for the Professional field. Just a few groups behind Schellpeper was Nick Wanderscheid, PGA of Morningside University who closed out his round in exciting fashion with two birdies and an eagle in his final four holes. Wanderscheid shot an impressive 69 (4-under) which was good enough to claim his first Professional victory of the season. Finishing runner-up was Sam Jonell, PGA of River Wilds GC with a solid round of 71 (2-under).

The Pro-Am portion of the event was played through a 2-Net Best Ball format for the teams of four (1 Nebraska PGA Professional and 3 amateurs). Shane Zywiec, PGA of Highlands GC and his playing partners Brook Darnell, Chip Sorenson and Jeff Baker fired a field-best 20-under to win the team event. Finishing runner-up was Justin Herron, PGA of Oak Hills CC alongside Jimmy Norris, Mike Depa and Brian Elsasser.

We would like to thank General Manager Adam Fletcher, Superintendent Pat Fischer and the entire staff at Landmand Golf Club for hosting such an incredible event while providing great hospitality to our field.

Lastly, we would also like to thank our presenting sponsors Chesterman Co. Coca-Cola and Miller & Sons Golf Cars (E-Z-GO) as well as our supporting sponsors Bushnell Golf, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Maui Jim for making this event possible.
