Lincoln, NE – One month after the Nebraska Section PGA hosted its annual Section Championship at Hillcrest Country Club, the Section returned to the Lincoln facility for another Pro-Am event, presented by Miller & Sons Golf Cars (Club Car). A field of 30 teams featuring Nebraska PGA Professionals and their amateur partners competed on a day that offered perfect weather and ideal scoring conditions.
The Professionals competed in an individual stroke-play event, while the team competition featured the unique “Lone Ranger” format. On each hole, one team member is designated as the “Lone Ranger,” with the position rotating throughout the round. Player A begins as the Lone Ranger on the 1st hole, followed by Player B on the 2nd, Player C on the 3rd, Player D on the 4th, and then back to Player A on the 5th.
Two scores count toward the team total on each hole, one of which must be the Lone Ranger’s score. The second score is the lowest score recorded by one of the other three players. The team with the lowest cumulative score at the end of the round is crowned the champion.
In the Professional-only event, Happy Hollow Club’s Ryan Vermeer got back to his winning ways with a blistering 64 (8-under), highlighted by nine birdies and just one bogey. His strong play also helped lead his team to a 10-under total and a solo second-place finish, capping off an impressive showing for the group.
Finishing tied for second in the Professional-only event were four players who each carded impressive rounds of 69 (3-under): Tom Hearn, PGA of the PGA TOUR; Carson Schaake of Tiburon Golf Club; Mark Foelbaek, PGA of the Country Club of Lincoln; and Andrew Storm, PGA of The Players Club of Omaha.
The team competition was captured by PGA Life Member Chris Wiemers and his amateur partners Vance Stauffer, Brad Dolson, and Mark Ogle. The group ham-and-egged it better than anyone in the field, combining for an impressive 11-under total in the challenging format to secure a one-shot victory.
