Vermeer Picks Up Professional Victory; Ten NEPGA Professionals Shoot Under Par at Firethorn GC

Lincoln, NE. – Representing a record field, 42 teams and 168 players took on one of the toughest courses in the state in Firethorn Golf Club for today’s Pro-3Am event, presented by Club Car / Nebraska Golf and Turf. We were blessed again with a perfect slate of weather and tremendous scores were posted in both the Professional-only and team divisions, highlighted by ten NEPGA Professionals shooting under par.

With tee times beginning at 8:00am and lasting till 3:30pm, players were on the course the entire day and impressive rounds were shot in both the morning and afternoon waves. Early in the day, Golf Galaxy’s Ted DiGiacomo, PGA started off on a tear going 6-under in his first 10 holes, but after a couple blemishes coming home, he wound up at 4-under for the day. DiGiacomo’s stellar round was in danger throughout the day with many PGA Pro’s going low, but it wasn’t until Happy Hollow Club’s Ryan Vermeer, PGA fired a field-best 66 (5-under) for the win. Vermeer’s bogey-free round really came together on the back nine where he put together a string of birdies between holes 10 and 12 in route to a 30 coming home. Firethorn Golf Club’s very own Steve Friesen, PGA finished in solo third at 3-under.

In the team division, players competed in a 2 Net Best Ball format in the Pro-3Am event and it took a blazing round of 22-under to sit at the top of the leaderboard. Two teams managed that impressive number while many were in the hunt. James Weaver, PGA of Platteview GC and his team of amateurs tied Brad Neunaber, PGA of Hidden Valley GC at the top to lead a field that saw five teams shoot 17-under or better. Both Weaver and Neunaber’s teams shot 10-under on the front and 12-under on the back in route to their shared victory.
