Fremont, NE – Nebraska Section PGA Professionals and their amateur guests competed today at the beautiful Fremont Golf Club. The morning began with sunshine and breezy, cool temps but the skies soon gave way to showers and cold temperatures. With 19 teams in the field, the stage was set for a challenging day. Ryan Vermeer, PGA of Happy Hollow Club posted an impressive three-under-par 68. Vermeer recorded a total of five birdies as his ball striking was on point during the rainy, windy conditions. Vermeer’s next stop, the 101st PGA Championship at famed Bethpage Black Golf Course. Coming in tied for second place in the professional division was Tom Hearn, PGA of PGA TOUR and Kyle Schellpeper, PGA of Oak Hills Country Club who posted five-over-par 76.
The team competition featured a 2-Net best balls on the Par 4’s, Par 3’s and 1-Net best ball on the Par 5’s. The team of Sam Jonell, PGA of Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis, came in first place in the team event. Jonell and his amateur partners of Nate Silke, Colby Kontor and Keith Kontor, posted 10-under-par to take the two-stroke win over the teams of Mike Cornell, PGA and Ted DiGiacomo, PGA.

About The Nebraska Section PGA
The Nebraska Section of the PGA is one of 41 Sections that together comprise the PGA of America. The Nebraska Section PGA is a non-for-profit organization comprised of approximately 261 PGA Members and 21 PGA Associates who strive to promote the enjoyment and growth of the game of golf. The Nebraska Section PGA encompasses the entire State of Nebraska, western fifth of Iowa and a small portion of South Dakota including Dakota Dunes and Yankton.
