Vermeer Captures Harris Golf Cars Pro-Am

Omaha, Nebraska – Near perfect scoring conditions welcomed Nebraska PGA Professionals and their amateur guests to Tiburon G.C. for the Harris Golf Cars Pro-3Am.  It was evident early on that everyone was shaking off some winter rust but as the temperatures rose so did the level of play as afternoon scoring was around par or better.

The reigning OMEGA PGA Professional Player of the Year, Ryan Vermeer, PGA, Director of Instruction at Happy Hollow Club is off to another hot start to the season by posting nine-under-par 99 in the 27-hole format.  Vermeer got off to a slow start as he was one over-par through his first five holes but birdies on holes #7 and #9 kick started his round.  Vermeer would not make another bogey on the day and made 10-birdies in his final 21-holes.  Sam Jonell, PGA of Miracle Hill Golf & Tennis had a solid round of golf to post four-under-par 104.  Jonell made nine-birdies on the day but an untimely double-bogey on the par 4 fifth hole on the Great White Course slowed down his chances of catching Vermeer.  Rounding out the top five was Shane Zywiec, PGA of Highlands G.C. and Ted DiGiacomo, PGA of Golf Galaxy-Omaha who finished tied for third at one-under-par 107 and Jon Petersen, PGA of Tiburon G.C. and Kevin Drew, PGA of the Field Club of Omaha finished tied for fifth at even-par 108 was.

The team format over 27-holes featured two-net best balls on the Mako course, one-gross and one-net on the Great White course and one-net best ball on the Hammerhead course.  It was a close race to the final few holes but in the end, Jon Petersen, PGA and his amateur partners, Dough Mitchell, Rick Kanne and Paul Roth finished at 22-under-par clipping Jonell’s team by one shot.

The Nebraska Section PGA would like to thank presenting sponsor, Harris Golf Cars and company President, Scott Harris and regional representative, Kevin Dorrington, PGA.  In addition, we would like to thank our driving range sponsor, Coors Light & Arnold Palmer Spiked, the official beverage of the Nebraska PGA for their support of this great event.  Lastly, this event would not be possible without the support of the Tiburon Golf Club staff led by General Manager, Bob Hill Jr., Matt Wollum and Golf Course Superintendent, Matt Petrick.
