VERMEER CAPS OFF TREMENDOUS SEASON WITH VICTORY AT HIGHLANDS GOLF COURSE; TWO TEAMS TIE IN TEAM EVENT

Lincoln, NE. – Highlands Golf Course hosted Nebraska PGA’s final tournament of the 2020 season featuring brisk temperatures but solid scoring conditions. 18 teams of Nebraska PGA Professionals battled it out in a stableford format with an individual and team event both up for grabs. After being rescheduled twice due to weather and rainy conditions, the Professional-only event was finally played as the finale of the season.

Beginning with the individual event, Ryan Vermeer, PGA of Happy Hollow Club continued his hot streak with another victory after firing a 64 (8-under-par) in the stableford format in route to 53 points. Yet another incredible round was highlighted by 9 birdies with the lone-blemish coming on hole 18. Vermeer caught fire on hole 5 with three consecutive birdies and then went on to birdie five of seven holes between holes 11 and 17. In the team division, Jon Petersen, PGA of Tiburon Golf Club and Mike VunCannon, PGA of Elks Country Club tied Steve Friesen, PGA of Firethorn Golf Club and Andrew Storm of Shadow Ridge Country Club with 88 points for first place. Petersen and Vuncannon combined for 12 birdies while Friesen and Storm made 9 birdies and just one bogey. Judd Cornell of Player Club of Omaha fired his own 66 (6-under-par) with 7 birdies while Jon Peterson, PGA shot his own 68 (4-under-par).
