Hastings, NE – The Nebraska Section PGA made a triumphant return to Lochland Country Club as 68 teams teed it up in the 2025 Facilities Championship, presented by Mizuno Golf. Defending champions Steve Friesen, PGA, and Mike Coatman of Firethorn Golf Club looked to retain their title in a stacked field brimming with top-tier talent.
Each team was comprised of PGA Professionals or PGA Associates, paired from within their respective facilities. There were no limits on the number of combinations each facility could enter, adding strategic depth to the competition. Play began with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, and the format was a 36-hole, two-person best ball.
From the opening tee shots, Tiburon Golf Club made it clear they were the teams to beat. With three squads in the field, anchored by Jon Petersen, PGA, Carson Schaake, and Christian Hall, Tiburon surged ahead early — peppering the leaderboard with birdies and never looking back. Their coordinated “ham and egg” approach led to a dominant, history-making sweep of the podium.
In round one, two Tiburon teams tied atop the leaderboard with scorching best-ball scores of 61 (-11). Schaake led the charge with a sizzling 64 (-7) on his own ball, while partner Christian Hall added four birdies of his own. Jon Petersen poured in six more birdies, helping their groups maintain momentum through the opening 18.
They weren’t the only ones making noise early. Firethorn’s Friesen and Coatman opened with a strong 63 (-8), and Oak Hills’ Justin Herron, PGA, alongside Sam Martin, PGA, carded a respectable 67 (-4) to stay within striking distance.
Despite the pressure from the field, the Tiburon trios never wavered. Their birdie barrage continued well into the afternoon, capped off by a commanding finish. Carson Schaake and Christian Hall captured first place with a jaw-dropping 21-under-par performance. Just behind them, Petersen and Schaake claimed runner-up honors at 18-under, while Petersen and Hall completed the Tiburon trifecta with a 17-under total to secure third.
