Omaha, NE – Omaha Country Club welcomed 32 teams and 64 Nebraska PGA Professionals & Associates for the Section’s first major championship of the 2024 season. Perfect weather set up a great day for the 2024 Senior/Junior Championship, presented by E-Z-GO (Miller & Sons Golf Cars).

The teams were comprised of one senior member (50 years or older) and one junior member (49 years or younger) and the format was 18-hole four-ball stroke play tournament. Defending champions Steve Friesen, PGA of Firethorn GC and Charlie Borner, PGA of Hillcrest CC teamed up again and the field size grew from the previous year’s event at The Field Club of Omaha.

Happy Hollow Club’s Ryan Vermeer, PGA and Tiburon Golf Club’s Jon Petersen, PGA teamed up and entered the tournament as one of the favorites in the field to win. The duo got off to a hot start with four birdies in their first five holes to jump out with the lead early in the event.

Floyd Park Golf Course’s Matt Nelson, PGA and Tiburon Golf Club’s Carson Schaake got off to their own hot start with an eagle and two birdies in their first five holes. Joining the groups with impressive starts was Shadow Ridge Country Club’s James Sieckmann, PGA and Country Club of Lincoln’s Mark Foelbaek. Sieckmann/Foelbaek carded three birdies of their own in their first four holes and the impressive play continued till the end.

Sieckmann and Foelbaek went on to shoot a bogey-free 64 (7-under) to capture the 2024 Senior/Junior Championship, presented by E-Z-GO (Miller & Sons Golf Cars). The champions made three birdies on the front and four birdies on the back and it was enough to win by one stroke.

Finishing runner-up was Petersen/Vermeer at 65 (6-under) and Nelson/Schaake rounded out the top three with a 66 (5-under). Three more teams tied for fourth with rounds of 67 (4-under). 14 total groups shot in red figures and great golf was played across the entire field.
