Gothenburg, NE – Wild Horse Golf Club hosted 12 Nebraska PGA Professionals and their teams of amateurs for the 2024 308 Cup Pro-Am, presented by Chesterman Co. Coca-Cola. A picture perfect day with low winds and great temperatures welcomed the field and led to a scoring fest in Western Nebraska.

In the Professional-only division, the format was stableford with eagles, birdies, pars and bogeys all being worth a different amount of points. The team format was similar, but two net best balls were counted towards the team score using the same modified stableford scoring format. For example, a double eagle was worth 10 points, an eagle was 7 points and a birdie was 4 points and so on. The event began at 10:00am via a shotgun start.

Beginning with the Professional-only division, five Nebraska PGA Professionals managed to score more than 40 points led by Matt Shaner, PGA of Golf Fit USA. Shaner got back into the Section win column with an impressive performance at Wild Horse GC. Shaner made seven birdies on the day and shot 66 (6-under) in route to posting a field-best 49 points. In fitting fashion, Shaner ended his day with a birdie on No. 14 to solidify his victory.

Finishing tied for runner-up, both Max Hadenfeldt, PGA of Scottsbluff Country Club and Caleb Badura of Riverside Golf Club scored 44 points. Rounding out the top five was Trevor Chesnut, PGA of Scottsbluff CC with 43 points and Jay Cottam, PGA of Meadowlark Hills Golf Course with 41 points.

In the team event, an on-course sudden death playoff was needed to decide the champion after both Caleb Badura and Trevor Chesnut’s team tied with 120 points on the day. On the first playoff hole, Badura found himself in the dreaded ‘Wooga’ before pulling off a miraculous shot to within 10 feet of the hole. Badura rolled in the winning birdie and went onto win alongside his amateur partners Ron Maciejewski, Mike Crow and JD Dalrymple.
