Omaha, NE. – Omaha Country Club hosted a special day for the Nebraska PGA featuring two events including our inaugural NEPGA Women’s Professional Championship, presented by PGA Tour. In addition, we hosted the semifinal and final rounds of our 2020 Nebraska PGA Match Play Championship. Four semifinalists played 36-holes in a match play format while five women in our Section competed in 18-hole stroke-play Championship.

Presented by the PGA Tour and OMEGA, Ted DiGiacomo, PGA of Golf Galaxy Omaha pulled off the upset and defeated Happy Hollow Club’s Ryan Vermeer, PGA 5&4 while Awarii Dunes’ Jay Cottam, PGA won his semifinal match against Firethorn Golf Club’s Steve Friesen, PGA 4&3. The Match Play Championship finals match teed off ahead of the NEPGA Women’s Professional Championship and Cottam went on to win the NEPGA Match Play title after defeating Digiacomo 4&3. Cottam is the first Assistant PGA Professional to win since 2014 and he remains undefeated in NEPGA matches after winning the NEPGA Assistant Match Play Championship earlier this year.

In the inaugural NEPGA Women’s Professional Championship, Wilderness Ridge’s Sarah Pravecek, PGA finished at 80 and 9-over-par. Pravecek stayed consistent throughout the day and her short game saved carried her to an impressive round at a tough course. We were excited to present this brand new event for 2020 and it was a special day for the participating Nebraska Women PGA Professionals. The day was a celebration for the women in our Section and the beginning of something special. We hope to inspire women that love the game of golf to consider this industry as a career path.

We would like to thank Director of Golf Tony Pesavento, PGA, Head Golf Professional Dominick Mitchum, PGA and the entire staff at Omaha Country Club for hosting our big day.
