Hastings, NE – Presented by Mizuno, the Nebraska Section PGA welcomed 75 teams of PGA Professionals and Associates to compete in the 2026 Facilities Championship, marking the second major championship event of the season. The championship featured teams representing facilities from across the Section, with each pairing consisting of PGA Professionals and/or PGA Associates from the same facility.
With no restrictions on the number of teams each facility could enter, the event added an extra layer of depth and competition throughout the field. Play began with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start as teams competed in a demanding 36-hole, two-person best-ball format in pursuit of one of the Section’s premier team titles.
Entering the championship, the defending team of Carson Schaake and Christian Hall looked to build on their success from a year ago after capturing the 2025 title. Tiburon Golf Club once again entered the event with a strong contingent, having swept the podium in last year’s championship as all three top-finishing teams represented the facility, led by the championship duo along with Jon Petersen helping anchor Tiburon’s impressive showing.
Once again, Tiburon Golf Club delivered an impressive performance, but this year it was the duo of Carson Schaake and Jon Petersen who rose to the top of the leaderboard with one of the most dominant team performances seen in recent Nebraska PGA competition. The pair was exceptional from start to finish, carding matching rounds of 61-61 to finish at an incredible 22-under-par total. Their two-round performance was flawless, featuring zero bogeys while piling up 20 birdies and an eagle.
inishing runner-up was the Firethorn Golf Club team of Mike Coatman, PGA and Brady Schnell, who turned in an outstanding performance of their own with a 36-hole total of 18-under-par. Tying for third place at 16-under were the defending champions, Carson Schaake and Christian Hall of Tiburon Golf Club, alongside the Omaha Country Club duo of Bruce Smith, PGA and Alex Schaake, rounding out a talented leaderboard in one of the strongest team fields of the season.
We extend our sincere thanks to Blake Stratman and Mizuno for their support and on-site presence as the championship’s presenting sponsor. We would also like to recognize our supporting partners Oakley, the PGA TOUR, Rolex, Dynamic Brands and Bushnell Golf for helping make this championship possible and for their continued support of both the Nebraska Section PGA and our Nebraska PGA Professionals throughout the season.
Lastly, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Head Golf Professional Ky Molholm, PGA and the entire staff at Lochland Country Club for hosting this year’s championship and providing outstanding hospitality throughout the event. Their efforts helped create a first-class experience for all competitors. With the Facilities Championship now complete, attention turns to next week as Nebraska PGA Professionals prepare for another busy stretch of major championship season with the 2026 Nebraska PGA Senior and Assistant Championships.
