PETERSEN AND VERMEER LEAD FIELD AT HARRIS GOLF CARS PRO 3-AM

Council Bluffs, IA. – Nebraska Section PGA Professionals and their amateur members and guests came together at Bent Tree Golf Club in a Pro 3-Am event presented by Harris Golf Cars. On a course that is already tough due to the tight fairways surrounded by fescue, players were welcomed by consistent 20+ mph winds all day but that didn’t stop the field from going low. Two players, Jon Petersen, PGA of Tiburon Golf Club and reigning Nebraska Section Player of the Year Ryan Vermeer, PGA of Happy Hollow Club fired rounds of 68 and 4-under-par to win the low-Professional honors. Petersen was even par after the first eight holes, before an eagle on hole nine jump-started his round. Vermeer was steady all day and found himself at even par thru 12 holes, before he went on a tear by birdieing four of the final six holes. Petersen’s up and down round came together on the back nine and his split 34-34 gave him his best round of the 2020 season. Though this was Vermeer’s first Section tournament of the season, he picked back up right where he left off in 2019. Rounding out the
top three was Ted DiGiacomo, PGA of Golf Galaxy-Omaha and Brad Bailey, PGA of Champions Run who finished tied for third at three-under par 72.

The team competition featured a 1 Gross & 1 Net format and two teams separated themselves from the field to post a tournament best of 18-under-par to tie for the team title. Along with winning low-Professional honors, Tiburon Golf Club’s Jon Petersen, PGA and his team of amateurs finished at 18-under-par. Petersen’s team was at the top of the leaderboard for majority of the day before Firethorn Golf Club’s Mike Coatman and his team came in with a round of 18-under-par as well to tie Petersen’s team for low-team honors.

The Nebraska Section of the PGA is one of 41 Sections that together comprise the PGA of America. The Nebraska Section PGA is a non-for-profit organization comprised of approximately 275 PGA Members and 21 PGA Associates who strive to promote the enjoyment and growth of the game of golf. The Nebraska Section PGA encompasses the entire State of Nebraska, western fifth of Iowa and a small portion of South Dakota including Dakota Dunes and Yankton. The Section office is located in Lincoln, NE and acts as a resource for local and national golf information for the golf professional and amateur players alike. Our members are often referred to as “Club Professionals”, not to be mistaken as PGA Tour Professionals. Each Nebraska Section PGA Professional serves as an expert in the ever-changing business of golf. They are the leading expert players and teachers, skilled business managers, community leaders, and superior merchandisers who have dedicated their careers to the local delivery of these services.
