Omaha, NE – After every junior golf season at Happy Hollow Club, the club selects a boy and girl from their program for the Tom & Kathy Rowen Junior Golf Achievement Award to recognize their passion and love for the game. The award recipients then choose a charity of their choice that is close to their heart to receive $1,500 provided by the Rowen family.
After being selected for the award, 2021 recipient Knox Pocras knew exactly who he wanted to donate the check to.
“I chose PGA REACH Nebraska because I know that the money will help with their programming which includes assisting juniors across the state and providing them access to golf courses and practice facilities,” said Pocras.
Pocras has grown up his whole life around the game of golf and loves to compete whether it’s in a Nebraska Junior Golf event or at the club in Omaha. Many close to him would say he “eats, drinks and sleeps golf”. With that said, Pocras realizes he’s fortunate to have the opportunities he has to compete and practice on a daily basis, a big reason why he believes in PGA REACH Nebraska.
“So many kids my age don’t have the chance to experience the game of golf and that’s why it feels great to give back to an organization that is trying to fix that,” said Pocras.
Whether it’s the Clubs Fore Youth program which provides access and golf equipment to high school girls in the state or PGA Jr. League which Pocras took part in this summer, PGA REACH Nebraska strives to break down the barriers that keep youth in Nebraska from developing a love for the game of golf. The gracious donation made by Knox Pocras along with every donor make it all possible.
“It’s an honor to experience what it’s like to give back and help out others in a positive way and this is a moment I won’t forget,” said Pocras.
