Mike Coatman Aces Second to Last Hole and Coatman/Friesen win 2021 NEPGA Team Championship by One

Nebraska City, NE. – Dormie Network’s ArborLinks played host to Nebraska PGA’s 2021 Team Championship, presented by All Star Pro Golf. Featuring 36 holes in a two-person best ball and two-person scramble split format, incredible scores were posted across the board. Though there was blistering winds, 25 teams shot under-par with eight finishing 10-under-par or better highlighted by the champions at 20-under-par.

Firethorn Golf Club’s Steve Friesen, PGA and Mike Coatman came away with a consistent day after firing two rounds of 62 (10-under-par) to win by one stroke. In 36 holes, the duo was bogey-free with 18 birdies but their day was highlighted by Coatman’s hole-in-one on their second to last hole which prevailed them to victory. From 175 yards with a 9 iron on hole No. 6, Coatman played the wind perfectly and came away with one of the Section’s top shots of the season.

Out of the 18 holes at ArborLinks, the duo birdied all but five at least once by the end of their second round and their stellar day is one for the history books. Finishing just one stroke off the champions was Jon Petersen, PGA and Jim White, PGA MP with a bogey-free 19-under-par day. Finishing at 17-under-par and in solo-third was Ted DiGiacomo, PGA of Golf Galaxy Omaha and Jay Cottam, PGA of Awarii Dunes.

In addition to the incredible scoring on a tough golf course, it was a day full of camaraderie for Nebraska PGA Professionals to team up and share their love for the game.
