Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska PGA Section is proud to announce Jeff Nielsen, PGA, Head Golf Professional at Bent Tree Golf Club, as the April recipient of the Wilson Sporting Goods Game Ball Award. This monthly honor recognizes PGA Professionals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and commitment to growing the game of golf.

A longtime member of the PGA of America, Nielsen’s influence reaches far beyond the daily operations at Bent Tree GC. His passion for player development, community engagement, and mentorship has made a lasting impact across the Nebraska Section.

“Being recognized by the Professionals I respect and learn from every day is truly humbling,” Nielsen said.

“There are so many talented individuals in the Nebraska PGA Section doing amazing work, so this recognition means a lot. This award is truly a reflection of our team at Bent Tree Golf Club. The environment we are building is only possible because of our team that shows up every day, takes pride in their work, and genuinely cares about others. I am blessed to be surrounded by a team that makes Bent Tree so special.”

Nielsen’s commitment to growing the game is evident through his longstanding involvement with PGA REACH Nebraska programming. Since its inception, he has played an active role in expanding opportunities for golfers of all ages and skill levels.

“From first swings and ladies clinics to college golfers, I’m proud to play a role in growing the game of golf,” Nielsen said. “Over the past few years, we’ve been proud to serve as a host site for Nebraska Junior Golf, U.S. Kids, a number of high school teams, and we’re the home course for Iowa Western CC. Perhaps most meaningful to us is the growth of our own junior program—more than doubling in size from previous years.”

At Bent Tree, Nielsen and his team have focused on creating an engaging and welcoming environment, particularly for junior golfers.

“Our junior program is built around learning the fundamentals while keeping the experience fun,” he said. “We mix in other activities, like fishing, to keep juniors active and excited to be here. The goal is simple—create an environment where juniors build skills, develop friendships, build confidence, and want to come back again.”

In addition to his role as Head Professional, Nielsen has made a remarkable impact as Head Coach of the Duchesne Girls Golf Team. Over a 19-year tenure, he has led the program to eight state championships, a testament to his leadership and ability to develop student-athletes both on and off the course.

“Coaching at Duchesne for 19 years has been very rewarding and gratifying in ways that go far beyond championships,” Nielsen said. “It’s about the people, the growth, and the moments along the way. What matters most to me is teaching young people to do things the right way: to be a great teammate, work hard, be accountable, be honest, be prepared, have the courage to change, understand what is important, be humble, and have fun.”

He continued, “I’ve always believed in the simple motto that you get what you earn, and being a part of that process is what makes coaching so fulfilling. Seeing players put in the work, gain confidence, and become better on and off the course—that’s what makes it all worth it.”

At Bent Tree Golf Club, Nielsen has also overseen multiple improvements in recent seasons, enhancing both operations and the overall player experience. His leadership continues to elevate the facility while fostering a strong, team-oriented culture.

Through his dedication to player development, community involvement, and service to the game, Nielsen exemplifies the very best qualities of a PGA Professional. The Nebraska PGA Section is proud to recognize him as April’s Wilson Sporting Goods Game Ball Award recipient.

Nominations for the next Wilson Sporting Goods Monthly Game Ball will open on May 1st and will close at 11:59 PM on May 15th.
