Hearn and Friesen Tie For Low-Pro Honors at Tiburon; Team Baranowski Captures Team Title

Omaha, NE. – Nebraska PGA Professionals and their teams of Amateurs came together for the opening event of the 2021 NEPGA tournament season. To tee off the year, 19 teams competed at Tiburon Golf Club in a 27 Hole Pro-3Am event. On a day with tough scoring conditions due to the low-temperatures and gusting winds, stellar scores were still posted in both the Professional and team divisions.

In the Professional field, PGA Tour Rules Official Tom Hearn, PGA and Steve Friesen, PGA of Firethorn Golf Club tied to share low-Professional honors with 27-hole scores of 2-under-par. Friesen’s round was highlighted by 6 birdies and an eagle on Hammerhead No. 9 which proved to be large. Hearn’s round was similar to Friesen’s as he had 6 birdies and an eagle as well, the only difference being he ended his day by holing out for eagle on his final hole. That miraculous shot kept him in contention and it wound up being enough to tie for first in the Professional field. Finishing in solo third was Ryan Vermeer, PGA of Happy Hollow Club at 1-under-par.

In the team division, Tony Baranowski, PGA of Fremont Golf Club and his team of Amateurs represented by Eric Luebbe, Pat Walsh and Torin Otis, finished in first with an incredible final score of 16-under-par. The format was One Net Best Ball on the Mako course, Two Net Best Ball on the Great White course and Three Net Best Ball on the Hammerhead course. Battling the winds and low-temperatures all day, 16-under-par showed how impressive Baranowski’s team was today. Finishing one-stroke back was TJ Loudner, PGA of Stone Creek GC and his team of Amateurs at 15-under-par.

It was once again an exciting event for everyone involved and another NEPGA tournament season is underway.
