Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska Section PGA is proud to recognize Greg Johannesen, PGA of The Fairways at Lincoln as the Wilson Sporting Goods Game Ball recipient for August.
The Wilson Game Ball honors PGA Professionals who exemplify leadership, innovation, and dedication to growing the game of golf — and for more than three decades, Greg Johannesen has done exactly that. As one of the most influential figures in club fitting and instruction in our Section, Greg’s impact is felt far and wide by golfers of all ages and abilities.
“I am honored to receive this month’s Wilson Game Ball award,” Johannesen shared. “Entering the golf industry and becoming a member of the Nebraska Section PGA has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made.”
Since joining the Section in 1992, Greg has committed himself to improving how golfers experience the game. Widely regarded as a pioneer in club fitting, Greg has been instrumental in developing PXIII — a patented club fitting system and software that is now taught as part of the Professional Golf Management (PGM) curriculum at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His leadership in this area has fundamentally changed how golf equipment is fit, bringing new levels of precision and performance to players of all skill levels.
“Golf is a very unique sport,” Greg explained. “While getting the correct club specs in a player’s hands is very important, inter-set matching is vital for consistency, and is achievable with our PXIII technology. Leverage matching all clubs in a set for predictable release is a must and cannot be left to chance.”
Supported and mentored by Nebraska PGA legend Jim White, PGA MP, Greg has combined deep technical expertise with an unwavering passion for teaching. Together, the two professionals helped turn PXIII from a concept into a game-changing reality — one that continues to benefit students across the region and beyond.
“I’ve been fortunate to have the support of Jim White, who’s had a very positive influence on me and my family,” said Johannesen. “He’s supported me in what I do best — teaching and club fitting — and we feel we’ve created something very special.”
Beyond fitting and instruction, Greg has made an indelible impact through service, particularly through the Foundation’s PGA HOPE program. As the son of a veteran, Greg finds deep meaning in giving back to those who’ve served.
“It’s very fulfilling for me to be able to give something back to those who do so much in protecting our great country,” he said. “I encourage all of you to get involved in this amazing program.”
Greg has also played an active role in shaping the next generation of PGA Professionals through his work with UNL’s PGM program. His PXIII system is now part of a 401-level course taught to graduating seniors, helping ensure that tomorrow’s professionals are equipped with the tools and knowledge to better serve golfers everywhere.
“This program continues to grow and has become one of the very best in the country,” said Greg. “It’s exciting and rewarding for me to work with these talented kids, who are the future of our industry.”
After more than 30 years of elevating the profession in Nebraska, Greg will soon be relocating to Tulsa to be closer to family. While the move marks a new chapter, his legacy within the Section is undeniable.
“Greg has done more for club fitting than anyone in our Section — and it’s not even close,” one colleague wrote in his nomination. “This award is the icing on the cake for everything he’s done to help people enjoy the game more through better equipment and instruction.”
As one of golf’s most respected minds and kindest mentors, Greg Johannesen continues to inspire those around him — not only through technology and teaching, but through the relationships and trust he’s built along the way.
The Wilson Sporting Goods Game Ball Award celebrates Nebraska PGA Professionals who go above and beyond in their work and communities. For his decades of service, innovation, and mentorship, Greg Johannesen exemplifies that spirit in every way.
Nominations for the next Wilson Sporting Goods Monthly Game Ball will open on September 1st and will close at 11:59 PM on September 15th.
