Omaha, NE – The Nebraska Section PGA hosted a 27-hole Pro-Am featuring a field of 30 teams at The Players Club of Omaha, presented by Coors Light & White Claw Hard Seltzer. Teams of four came together for a full day of golf that included three different formats for each set of nine holes. The front nine was played as a two-net best ball, the back was one-net best ball and the Highland nine was three-net best ball. Scoring conditions were nearly perfect for the players and it showed on the Professional-only leaderboard.

Players were scattered across the 27-hole golf course once the shotgun began at 10:00am. Getting off to a hot start, Steve Friesen, PGA of Firethorn Golf Club carded an opening 5-under (31) on the back nine which featured a birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie stretch between holes No. 14 to No. 17. Friesen then began his second nine on the Highland nine where he opened with a bogey before bouncing back in a big way. He birdied five of his next six holes and went to his final nine sitting at 9-under. Friesen finished at 10-under on the day to continue a hot start to the season.

In addition to Friesen’s impressive play, Ryan Vermeer, PGA of Happy Hollow Club was as consistent as ever. Just a year after winning the 2022 Nebraska PGA Professional Championship at The Players Club of Omaha, Vermeer picked up where he left off. His 10-under day included a 6-under (30) on the back nine and he matched Friesen to tie for Low-Professional honors in the event.

Judd Cornell, PGA of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and Shane Zywiec, PGA of Highlands Golf Course posted great rounds of 6-under to tie for third place. In the team event, Friesen and his amateur partners Steve Peterson, David Darrah & Dave Johnson carded a team score of 20-under to win.
