Columbus, NE. – After two rounds of play, Elks Country Club hosted the final round of the 29th Wells Fargo Nebraska Open on a top-ten day featuring perfect scoring conditions. This year’s tournament was restricted to Professional and Amateur players that must reside within the boundaries of the Nebraska Section PGA or must be Nebraska residents. The field included several collegiate scholar athletes welcomed twelve women, the most in tournament history. In addition to competition, the Wells Fargo Nebraska Open raises money for college scholarships and students who attend one of the five community college systems within Nebraska Public Power District’s service territory.

Nebraska Husker Men’s Golf team’s senior Mark Foelbaek fired three rounds of 69, 68, and 67 for a total of 204 to win the Wells Fargo Nebraska open at 12-under-par. Foelbaek found himself four-back of the leader with just eight holes to play, then he caught fire. Foelbaek played his next four holes at 4-under-par featuring an eagle on hole No. 15 followed up by a birdie on No. 16. The leaderboard was stacked and at one time, four players were tied at 11-under-par showing how impressive the field was. Gibbon’s Rylee Reinertson and Happy Hollow Club’s Ryan Vermeer, PGA finished runner-up and tied for low-Professional at 11-under-par. Husker Women’s Golf team’s Alice Duan took home Women’s Low-Amateur at 6-over-par from the same distance as the men.

We would like to thank our tremendous hosts, Head PGA Golf Professional Mike Vuncannon, PGA, General Manager, Dan Shull, Superintendent Eric Bice and the rest of the staff at Elks Country Club. To title sponsor Wells Fargo as well as the NPPD, we are so grateful for this partnership and the $1.7 million in scholarship funds we have collectively raised for students who attend one of the five community college systems within NPPD’s service territory.
