Omaha, NE – Omaha Country Club played host to 108 players on an absolutely gorgeous day in Nebraska for the Nebraska PGA Pro-Pro/Scratch-Scratch. This first year event became an instant classic among the 54 Professionals and 54 amateurs in the field.
The four-person team format of the event is 1 Professional and 1 amateur Best Ball where each hole’s score must include a Pro ball and Am ball to count. There was also a Pro-Pro contest and Scratch-Scratch contest counting 1 ball each.
Host Professionals Dominick Mitchum, PGA and Austin Miller, PGA paired with amateurs Michael Wilhelm and Danny Woodhead started off hot with 4 under through 8 but had disastrous double bogeys on holes #9 & #12 which held them back from claiming the title. The team of Justin Herron, PGA and Jon Petersen, PGA, Josh Peters, and Matt Carsey saw an opportunity and took full advance going 6 under through a 5-hole stretch and with a closing birdie sealed the deal for the team championship.
On the Professional-only side, Tony Baranowski, PGA and Sam Jonell, PGA lapped the field with a very impressive 8 under par performance including a stretch of 5 straight birdies. In the Scratch-Scratch contest, it was a much closer battle between Michael Wilhelm and Danny Woodhead against Scott Tridle and Travis Minzel. Tridle and Minzel just squeaked by with a late birdie to claim the title at 5 under par.
